Professional artist: I am a mother, daughter, sister, lover, and someone’s friend ...I am strong, a caregiver, in love, a fun person, a painter, a designer, a teacher, a firm believer that the world can change for the greater good… I am ME.
Carrie Disrud attended Grand Rapids Jr College, Merrill Fashion institute , And Ohio State university . Her early work started with Herman Miller as a space planner and office systems illustrations. While in Chicago she worked as a fashion illustrator
for Billy Falcon's House of Fashion & Design.
Her art career soon followed... and her works (paintings, sculpture, & furniture) have been shown in Galleries in Chicago, at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Saugatuck, Indiana and Key West. She has juried into many fine art fairs, and in 1996 she received the honor of creating the The New Eastside Art 6th annual poster image, in Chicago.
In 2001 she was chosen to be one of twelve to participate in the Bread and Roses /SPIU's Social Justice 2002 calendar, the originals travels from NY to Washington DC. Her work was purchased to be in the permanent collection of SEUI. In 1992 she and her husband Thom Joris opened Kalypso Gallery. It was a fun place to look at all kinds of great art… paintings, art wear and everything in between . The monthly seasonal art openings lasted for 16 years.
Disrud considers herself an outsider artist, a nontraditional artist. With no formal training she sort of fell into an undefinable category.
It’s definitely soulful, sometimes mystical, or cryptic, but always her.
