Our 17th annual Festival is celebrating the wine & food from the west coast of North and Central America. You will experience wines from every region along with the food that each location is known for.
Not familiar with wine from British Columbia or Baja California? We can’t wait for you to try them and we know that you will love them.
Join us on this Azure Blue Pacific Coast Highway wine tour in Key West, Florida
A brief description of each wine country is below so you can begin your exploration.
Canadian Wine from British Columbia
Driving across the highways of western Canada, which afford majestic views of sea and sky, the same phrase appears again and again on the region’s blue-and-white license plates: “Beautiful British Columbia.” It’s an apt description.
Covering nearly 365,000 square miles of old-growth temperate rainforests, storm-smashed seaboards and desert grasslands that stretch between the Pacific Ocean and the Canadian Rockies, the dramatic landscapes of Canada’s westernmost province are a headlining draw.
But for lovers of wine, craft spirits and craft beer, British Columbia holds another appeal entirely. An under appreciated destination for drinkers, the province offers terroir that, in recent years, has translated to a heady craft drinks scene.
Washington State
Washington State is known for its dynamic wine region, producing a wide array of wines, from fruit-forward reds to crisp whites, with a focus on Bordeaux and Rhône varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache, as well as Riesling and Chardonnay.
Oregon State
Oregon wine, particularly from the Willamette Valley, is renowned for its elegant and distinctly ripe Pinot Noir, known for its cool-climate characteristics and complex flavors, alongside other varietals like Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
California State
The cool, maritime climate along the California coast, especially in areas like Santa Barbara and the Central Coast, allows for the cultivation of grapes that produce wines with vibrant acidity and refreshing fruit flavors.
Mexican wine from Baja California
It’s strange to think of a region with 500 years of winemaking history as “emerging,” but few areas have leaped as significantly in quality over the last several years as Mexico. While its warm climate delivers full-bodied, fruit-forward wines with ease, producers are replacing power with balance, complexity and variety experimentation. The country offers everything you’d want from a region of its size: small, independent wineries; sustainable farming; no-rules winemaking and an incredible diversity of styles.
Vitis vinifera vines were planted in Mexico following the Spanish conquest of 1521, with seeds and cuttings of the Listán Prieto grape brought from Spain. In 1524, conquistador Hernán Cortés, the de facto ruler of “New Spain,” ordered certain Spanish settlers to plant vineyards.
The Festival events are being posted as they are finalized and will be available soon.
